A delegation from Larissa visited Miraflores to analyze how to improve the district

Within the framework of the EU’s International Urban Cooperation Program (IUC), which aims to support cities and regions of the world to connect and share solutions on sustainable development, a delegation from Larissa, Greece, traveled to Lima last 28 January to meet representatives of the municipality of Miraflores.

The visit lasted all week and, in it, Miraflores had the opportunity to show the delegation of Larissa their experience in topics such as renewable energy, public space and green areas, urban mobility and climate change.

The Mayor of Miraflores, Luís Molina, received the delegation of Larissa headed by the Vice Mayor of Larissa, Mr. Georgios Soultis, in the municipal palace, where the letter of commitment with which the two cities committed to work together was ratified on issues of urban mobility, public spaces and green areas, and renewable energies, laying the foundations for future collaboration.

During the mission, a technical visit was made to the Costa Verde, a genuine urban project in Peru, in which land reclaimed from the sea was adapted for the construction of gardens, public pools, tennis courts or infrastructure for children’s games (playgrounds).

They also visited a project to recover buildings of historical value and one of the underground stores of energy that the city has to react and serve the population in case of natural disaster.

During the exchange, Miraflores presented Larissa with her urban mobility plan and shared a presentation of good practices. To discuss the next steps, both delegations met at the Ricardo Palma Municipal Library, where they identified which projects can be jointly executed in the coming months.

After the visit, it is expected that the cooperation issues between both territories, the actors involved and the steps to be taken, with the aim of the second mission between the localities to be held next June, will be finalized. On this occasion, a delegation from Miraflores will travel to Larissa.

The members of the Larissa delegation that traveled to Lima were: the Lieutenant Mayor of Larissa, Georgios Soultis; the President of the Municipal Council, Dimitrios Tachos; the officials of the Department of Operational Planning, Evangelia Gkountroumpi and María Nikolaidou; and the Communications Coordinator, Apostolos Kalogiannis.
