The City of Torino had received its Latin-American counterpart for their second bilateral meeting under the IUC Programme city-to-city cooperation. The mission happened during the week of May 14-18 and strengthened their partnership on urban mobility and smart cities.
During the mission, the delegation from the Intermunicipal Consortia in the Greater ABC Area have visited several best practices and initiatives in the City of Torino, especially regarding the thematic area of mobility. Some of the activities were a walking tour to the city center, a visit to Urban Center Metropolitano, a presentation of the main urban transformations of the metropolitan area of Torino by Arch. Giulietta Fassino and a visit to Gruppo Torinese Transporti (Torinese Transport Group). They have also visited 5T and learnt about its activities. Another initiative analyzed by the technical group was TIM Innovation Lab in Smart Cities, where future developments and trends were discussed.
In the visit to Politecnico di Torino, Prof. Francesca Verga, Vice Rector for International Affairs, welcomed the Brazilian delegation and Fabio Bordin, Superintentend of Mauá Engeneering School, presented Maua’s research areas and selected projects. Joint efforts to increase collaboration between the two academic institutions have been agreed.
The delegations joint efforts culminated in drafting the Local Action Plan, that was the product of some working sessions.
Stefan Unseld, the coordinator of this pairing, highlights that “it is great to see two cities that are highly committed and have a good level of expertise. With Turin, ABC can learn from a well-integrated city in the Piemont region and the transfer of knowledge and exchange of experience is a great opportunity to improve the cities’ transport and mobility conditions.”
Next steps are the finalization and validation of the Action Plan, the search for financial support and its implementation.
